Website content updating in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Laukkonen Design | Lilac Way enthusiast

After years of launching design projects and websites as Laukkonen Design, the focus is now on promoting restoration and conservation of historic 1930s parks in Minneapolis, MN.

Restore Lilac Way is a civic project conceived, researched, written, designed and developed pro bono by Karen Laukkonen. The website dives deep into the history and the seven quirky roadside parks on Highway 100's Lilac Way. Built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the Great Depression, the three remaining parks are national treasures.

Maintained since 2007, all time and expenses are donated. The project’s partnerships with local community groups and MnDOT’s Historic Roadside Properties Program has led to history-making preservation and restoration.

As a gardener, I get my hands dirty and watch stuff grow. Take a virtual garden tour, where it is always 72° and sunny.
