LAUNCH Rocket Team
Educational Outreach in Boston, Massachusetts
LAUNCH Rocket Team is an extracurricular outreach program aimed at giving underrepresented, low-income students the opportunity to explore the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) world. Every year, about 15-20 students from various schools gain hands-on experience designing, building and launching amateur rockets, and competing in the national Team America Rocketry Challenge. The program is hosted at the MIT Edgerton Center, and is funded, organized and run by rocket scientists, engineers of all kinds, MIT undergraduate students, and junior mentor alumni.
The club is at zero financial cost to schools, students, and their families. The curriculum is tailored to hands-on STE(A)M exploration, as well as networking opportunities with like-minded peers, and professionals in STE(A)M fields. A primary goal of the club has been and will continue to place underrepresented students with limited access to STE(A)M resources into top-tier universities and colleges with world-renowned STE(A)M programs.
