Laura Davidson
Teacher in Redwood City, California
My name is Laura Davidson, and I am a media-loving, pop-culture-obsessed educator. I am constantly encouraging my students to make connections that extend beyond the classroom: to their own lives, to art, to film, to politics, to their world, at large. I seek to utilize technology as the medium that can facilitate these connections. In my classroom, students utilize the suite of Google products on a regular basis, engage in discussions online, and conduct Internet research regularly. It is important to me to give my students the space within the classroom to familiarize themselves with the digital world so that they can succeed in a 21st-century economy.
For the past 6 years, I have taught English at Sequoia High School. I am trained as an International Baccalaureate teacher, which I taught for the past 4 years. At Sequoia, I've been involved in teaching the IB English Summer Bridge Program, a two-week intensive that prepares incoming sophomores and juniors for the demands of IB.
Prior to teaching, I received a master's in education at Stanford University. I have experience working in both the public relations and advertising industries, as well. I received my bachelor's in English and American Studies at Princeton University. It was there that I cemented my love of literature and practiced my passion for dance.
I am relishing my current new role as "mom" to my son, Luke (18 months). My husband, Jamie, supports me in all my endeavors. You can find me hiking in and around Redwood City, dancing in Zumba class, getting zen in yoga, or reading.
