I’m a Northern California communication professional with a deep passion for exploring the ties between people and place.

Through my consulting, Laura Petersen Media, I help mission-driven organizations craft clear, compelling narratives that inspire trust and drive action. From strategic messaging and outreach campaigns to success stories and social media, I bring authenticity and insight to every project.

With a background in journalism, my writing dives into the complex relationships humans have with nature.

I enjoy exploring themes like water rights and fisheries, climate change, development pressures, land conservation, agriculture, homesteading, sustainable living, California native species, outdoor recreation, and Indigenous cultures.

I shine a light on everyday people behind efforts to protect local food systems, public lands, parks and trails, and iconic natural treasures—rivers, old-growth forests, and the Sierra Nevada’s mountain landscapes.

When not reporting, I’m often following the lure of adventure—seeking out creative spirits in music, art, literature, food, drink and travel.
