Laura Selway
Cambourne, Cambs
A Cambourne resident of 9 years, I am passionate about the villages, having seen them grow over this time, and have always had a keen interest in the developing community here. I am standing for election as I would love the opportunity to represent our community and listen and respond to its needs and wants.
I have shown my commitment to the community most recently through running the Swimming Pool Campaign. A mum of 3, I have also help set up two children's groups as one of the 123's group founding committee and the founder of a twins and multiples group which I now run with the Children's Centre.
I have good relationships with many organisations, businesses and service providers in Cambourne and am a personable character who is able to think objectively and be diplomatic.
Working as a Planning Department Health & Safety Officer means I have a good understanding of planning policies and legislation and experience of how a planning department runs. I have a interest in planning issues and community developments here and, although progress and change is inevitable, I would like to see that Cambourne does not wander too far from the original concept and Masterplan. I would like to help influence the provision of facilities and services by the developers and make sure that existing and future section 106 agreements give as much benefit to the community as possible.
Now that Cambourne is expanding, I feel more work needs to be done to preserve the sense of community here. I would like to see events and services set up for the community to enjoy and support for those already run by residents. We have a wealth of skills and creativity here and I would be keen to embrace and support our varied and unique community.
I would like to see work done to combat the problem of anti-social behaviour and believe that the parish council should play a crucial role, in conjunction with the pcso's, in thinking of ways to do this. We need to think creatively about how we can get young people to grow up with a sense of pride for our community and facilities and provide them with clubs, groups and activities.
I would also like to tackle other 'bugbears' including parking issues and dog fouling and, most importantly, listen and respond to any suggestions, problems or concerns residents have. In short, I have enjoyed Cambourne's past, I am active in its present and I would love to help shape its future.
