Laura Parent

I dreamed a dream that I would become a journalist. Now I'm living that dream.

I am a first year student at the Ryerson School of Journalism and recently moved to Toronto to work and study. I've loved to write for as long as I can remember, both creatively and journalistically.

I knew that journalism was what I wanted to do after reading the story of Daniel Pearl. I wanted to be that person who exposed the truth to the public, no matter what the cost. People need and have a right to know about what is going on around them, and to be able to form their own opinions on such issues.

That being said, I'm still not sure what beat I want to cover in the future. I am so interested in learning about so many different things, and passionate about music, fashion, world issues and current affairs. I do admire the careers of people like Daniel Pearl or George Stroumboulopoulos, but who knows what the future holds. Like journalism, I am constantly evolving, and cannot wait to explore everything the world has to offer.
