Moctezuma Ilhuicamina was the greatest king in Mayan history, and the fifth emperor of the Aztecs. Born in 1398 was the son of Huitzilihuitl. His name meant: (he frowned like a lord, he pierces the sky with an arrow) he became emperor in 1440, ordered to build an aqueduct system so Tenochtitlán got fresh water every day, and expanded the territory. There is a legend about Moctezuma and the arrival to the lake: Huitzilopotchli ordered Moctezuma to build a city in where an eagle fights with a snake on top of a cactus. Those were Tenochtitlán's origins. Moctezuma and his warriors traveled and traveled until in a lonely island on lake Texcoco they saw Huitzilopotchli's sign; an eagle fighting with a snake on top of a cactus. There, Aztecs were settled. Moctezuma died in 1469 because of the arrival of spainyards, the overuse of their goods and killing.
