Energetic, creative leader with extensive experience in public sector marketing and communications and leading complex organizational transformation projects.
Laura Carew is the Director General, Communications at Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) where she oversees all aspects of communications and marketing for the science-based department and works with colleagues across the federal family to lead communications strategies that guide Canadians and industry through Canada’s transition to a net zero future. Laura first joined NRCan in 2017 as Manager, Web Communications and has since held several executive positions within the Communications & Portfolio Sector, including Director General, Digital & Engagement, Director, Marketing & Creative, Director, Engagement, and Director, Digital Communications.
Prior to joining NRCan, Laura worked at the Public Service Commission as Social Media Manager, where she launched the GC Jobs presence on several platforms including LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Laura also spent 10 years at Employment and Social Development Canada working in various citizen services advisory positions in Communications, Marketing and within the Canada Student Loans Program.
Before joining the federal public service, Laura worked as a Project Manager for CMG Canada and the Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Marketing, overseeing in-person marketing activities for several federal departments, and applying her prior experience in the trade show industry as an Exhibitor Service Representative for Freeman.
Laura studied Communications at the University of Ottawa and completed the Telfer Public Sector Leaders Program in January 2022.
