Welcome to the life and work of me, Laura Cheek. I recently made my parents empty nesters with being the youngest of three children to leave home for college. Being an outsider from Nashville, TN, some get confused on how I ended up at the University of Georgia, but I couldn’t be more thrilled to be embarking on this new journey to try new things and meet new people. One thing I am most excited for this year is SEC Football and finding some outstanding restaurants to try.
Adjusting to college life has been an adventure. At Ensworth High School in Nashville, I went from having an average of 17 people per class to currently having a class size ranging from 40 to 300 people. My afternoons are no longer spent playing soccer, lacrosse, or doing club activities, but instead going to classes, walking around campus, or going to Bolton for an afternoon snack. I no longer have a car with me to drive around Nashville, but have found the UGA buses, Uber, and my feet will be my mode of transportation for this school year. I no longer have a broad view of classes to prepare me for college but have major specific courses in my Exercise and Sports Science schedule to help me follow my dreams of being a Physical or Occupational Therapist. Lastly, I am no longer in the comfort of my family dinners every Sunday but now venturing out on my own at my new home for the next four years, The University of Georgia.
