Transportation Planning, Municipal Government, and Public Engagement in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

How can we build a a more liveable and equitable city? It starts with streets.

Streets are our cities' largest public spaces. How we design and use this vast network has critical impacts on health, equity, social cohesion, economic opportunity and more. In my role as transportation advisor to a City Councillor, I am focused on how we can best meet those goals. When I'm not leading projects aimed at increasing transportation choice and safety, I'm revewing urban planning files, analyzing heritage conservation matters, or writing articles.

Before moving to city hall, I spent several years reporting on municipal issues. My neighbourhood-focused coverage of city hall touched on issues such as urban and rural planning, development, transportation, transit, cycling and pedestrian issues, public health and heritage conservation.

I have received awards for my reporting on health issues, including youth suicide and body integrity identity disorder. I am an honours graduate of the bachelor of journalism program at Carleton University and I've worked at and been published in newspapers like the Toronto Star, Hamilton Spectator and Peterborough Examiner.

As a volunteer, I help organize Jane's Walk Ottawa, an annual festival of walking tours that aims to improve urban literacy by offering insights into local history, planning, design and civic engagement through the simple act of walking and observing.
