Laura Cozzi
R&B Band, R&B Vocalist, Entertainer, Performer in Santa Barbara, California
Laura Cozzi has been entertaining audiences from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles for decades. She was an accomplished dancer and actress of many musical comedies, performing in her first professional theatrical production, "A Funny thing Happened on the way to the Forum," with Tony Geary, Dom DeLuise & Al Checco by the time she was 21. At 23, Laura became a member of The Screen Actor's Guild and worked in features and commercials.
After a lengthy hiatus from entertainment, Laura discovered that her true passion was singing. Although she had studied voice since she was a teenager and had learned many styles, she excelled in R&B. The one style that cannot be taught. It's a style that is straight from the soul.
Laura has performed in a few musical groups and decided that she wanted to start her own band. Soul Machine. It took years.. but she put together an amazing group of talent, which includes, former James Brown Bass player, Willie Ray Brundidge, who toured with Brown for 9 years and also worked with Luciano Pavarotti. Her other "All Star" players include, Fast Freddy Rapillo, on guitar, who recorded with Rick James, "Mary Jane" and "You and I", among others. He was also one of the founding members of the incredible jazz fusion band, Spyro Gyra! Isidro "Rosee" Yanez on Sax, James Graham on drums and Leon Bisquera on Keys, who played Grand piano for Anita Baker, and also performed with Randi Crawford
Besides mega talent, The Soul Machine band members have a chemistry that is electric and keeps the audience not only captivated but on the dance floor. Soul Machine's Soul Fantasy became a reality when Larry Dunn, Founder and Keyboardist of Earth Wind and Fire shared the stage with Laura and her band at Monty's Steak House in Woodland Hills for a performance of "September" and "That's the way of the World." Laura also had the honor of sharing the stage with Eric Kretz, drummer for Stone Temple Pilots for a private Hollywood event in 2014 and 2015. On July 1st, 2017, Laura Cozzi and her band, Soul Machine performed alongside the legendary Motown band, DeBarge as their backing band at UCLA's Royce Hall for a very special reunion show.
With her vast diversity and professional but jovial demeanor Laura can tailor make a musical repertoire for your venue, festival or special event.
