Laura Raposa
Chef in Scituate, Massachusetts
SUMMER 2015 -- I am thisclose to opening The Foodsmith, a scratch bakery and take-away lunch spot in the Halls Corner business district in So. Duxbury, MA. It's both exciting and scary, but it's always been my dream. And if I don't do it now...
When I am not covered in Annie Sloan chalk paint, filling out permit applications or testing scone recipes, I am planning a farmstead feast fundraiser for the Westport Historical Society. The Sept. 5 event will be held at the circa 1850 Sampson Farm in North Westport. I am the Society's 2nd vice prez and sit on the fundraising committee.
In my former life, I co-authored the Inside Track in the Boston Herald for 21 years. I retired from the newspaper after 30 years in March 2012.
In the summer of 2012, I interned at Flour Bakery + Cafe. It was eye-opening and mind-blowing at the same time.
Other little Laura factoids: I'm a Julia Child groupie, a "MasterChef" washout, an Anglophile and an animal lover (just ask my spoiled felines Pippa and Emma).
