Laura O. Ratliff

I am a New York City-based freelance writer and photographer.

I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Journalism at the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism. I received my B.A. in Journalism from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where I minored in Art History, Photography and Human Rights.

In the past, I’ve worked as the photo editor for SMU’s convergence news site, the SMU Daily Mustang and as an editorial intern at MVP’s Where Magazine. In 2010, I worked as a web/new media intern for The Chronicle of the Horse, a weekly equestrian sports publication established in 1937, and based in Middleburg, Va. I have also worked with NBC’s Local Integrated Media department. Most recently, I worked on the web staff at Country Living magazine. My work has appeared in or on GOOD.is, the Sunday Telegraph Seven magazine, The Atlantic Wire, Selectism, Gothamist, CNN iReport, CountryLiving.com, Where Magazine, and in The Chronicle of the Horse.

When I am not doing something journalism- or work-related, I can usually be found exploring my neighborhood—the West Village, spending time with my dog at the Washington Square Park dog run, trying new restaurants in the city, experimenting with recipes, or reading my Kindle. I also maintain a popular lifestyle blog, Smith & Ratliff, alongside my partner, Ryan.
