Laura Santhanam

Washington, D.C.

My name is Laura Santhanam, and my skills and background bridge research and journalism. At the PBS NewsHour, I use narrative and numbers to tell stories that matter to a national audience.

During my seven years here, I worked with polling partners at NPR and Marist to survey public attitudes about the pandemic, politics and urgent issues in an ever-changing world.

Since January 2020, I have reported on COVID-19 pandemic, interviewing public health experts, health care workers, scientists and people whose lives have been disrupted by this deadly virus as they try to move forward.

So often, each data point is a snapshot of someone's life. When I can connect those compelling, personal (and often overlooked) moments to broader trends, that helps people understand their world a little better. Those are my favorite stories to share.
