Laurel Burgett

Over the course of her 24 years as a member of the Phoenix Police Department, Lieutenant Laurel Burgett has enjoyed steady promotion and a high level of acclaim. Presently, Lieutenant Burgett functions as a Unit Commander for the department’s Drug Enforcement Bureau, the Home Invasions and Kidnapping Enforcement (HIKE) unit, and the Phoenix Police Department’s partnership with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. In this capacity, Lieutenant Burgett oversees violent crime investigations, covering such offenses related to drug and human trafficking, weapons, and illegal immigration.

Prior to her current position, Laurel Burgett served in a variety of roles throughout the Phoenix Police Department. She worked with the Violent Crimes Bureau for two separate stretches. Lieutenant Burgett also spent several years with the Public Affairs Bureau as a Public Information Officer. Over the course of two years in the Training Bureau, Lieutenant Burgett functioned first as a Basic Training Sergeant, then as a Proficiency Skills Supervisor. She has also supervised three different precincts, as a Sergeant and a Lieutenant. Early in her career, Laurel Burgett spent a significant amount of time as an Undercover Narcotics Detective. She began her work with the department as a Patrol Officer.

Laurel Burgett has earned numerous honors, including two Excellence in Cooperative Law Enforcement Awards from the Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee, a Phoenix Police Department Outstanding Supervisor Commendation, a Phoenix Police Department Police Chief’s Unit Award for the Year, a Mayor’s Commendation for Performance, and a Phoenix Police Department Community-Based Policing Award. Lieutenant Burgett has delivered numerous presentations and contributed to curricula for the department and local higher education institutions. In 2002, she received her Bachelor of Science in Public Safety Administration from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
