I am addicted to creating stories. I have hiked on the Appalachian Trail, worked with rock musicians and hippies on an organic farm, caved 600 feet underground, learned the traditional-Ethiopian dance, tagged Spotted Eagle Rays and experimented with interesting cuisine- all for a good story.
My iPhoto library is continually increasing. Words and images are my passion because I rely on them to be my storytellers.
Reporting is my opportunity to tell stories of interest and importance to the public.
I aspire to work creatively at a publication, whether that be through video storytelling, photography, writing, illustration or graphic design.
A good storyteller does not skimp on the details. My writing style zooms into a subject with a macro lens and shows the eye shadow receding into the brow crease, the nails bitten to the quick, the fried-egg shaped mole on the neck.
Reporting is not fabricating material to manufacture reader interest; it is capturing truth in an authentic and insightful way.
A writer has a responsibility to select the relevant and the compelling details that the reader will see.
