Lauren-anne Smith

My name is Lauren-Anne Smith, I am a 20 year old student from Dublin. I am currently in my second year out of four at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art and Design Technology. My course is called Business, Entrepreneurship and Management. I really enjoy my course because it is challenging, innovative and interesting and I am constantly learning and improving new skills for my work life and life after college. Upon completion of my degree I hope to go further in higher education to gain a masters.

I am an active member of campus life and take part in many college events. I am a main member in two societies. I am a board member on the Enterprise society and I act as the magazine link between it and the student magazine, 'the Three Monkeys'. This year we won the best overall clubs and societies award at the clubs and societies awards ceremony. We were a predominantly female run society this year, making us the only business/ enterprise society in the country to be primarily run by women.

I am also the public relations officer for IADT Enactus. Enactus is a global organisation for students. It is a worldwide competition between colleges. The aim is to provide a better world through entrepreneurial action. Each college team has to create and implement a project that will positively benefit society. It is new to IADT this year and I am one of the teams original members. I run all social media accounts, the website and communicate with Enactus Ireland about progress. For our first year we have two projects. The first is about bringing 3D printing to third world countries to eliminate long journeys for parts and the second is about teaching teenagers how to use social media appropriately so it wont affect them in their future work like and applying for jobs.

I volunteer with Foroige to run a youth group in a disadvantaged area. I run the group with two others girls and it is a girls club aimed specifically towards 11 and 12 year old girls. It runs once a week during school term and we do whatever the girls want to each week.

I currently work in River Island, I have been working there for the past year. I have previously worked in Schuh, United Drug and a pharmacy. I really enjoy working in retail because I love working with people.

I am a very outgoing person, I enjoy going out and doing a wide range of activities with my friends. I love to cook and listen to music and I really enjoy movies, especially old films.
