Lauren Connell Johnson

Lauren C. Johnson is a writer based in Washington, D.C. She has a passion for investigating stories related to environment, energy and human rights. A self-described “xenophile,” Lauren particularly enjoys bringing foreign news closer to home by seeking out local angles to international stories.

Lauren graduated from Emerson College in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in print and multimedia journalism. She has embraced digital media and is a skilled web producer who finds working with CSS and HTML code meditative. She can easily navigate the back-end of Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress CMS sites and is also experienced in video and photo editing.

Lauren has recently returned from Ecuador where she lived and worked from January 2010 to late October 2012. In Ecuador, Lauren assisted indigenous organizations and communities in developing online communications strategies. She is proficient in written and spoken Spanish and knows a few good comebacks in the indigenous Kichwa language.
