Lauren McCormick
I am a mutt consisting of equal parts Mohawk First Nations, German, Polish, Irish and Scottish. I guess that makes me a pure-bred Canadian. I speak English fluently all the time. I speak French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese fluently after a good bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. I have two mothers, a father, a sister and a brother. I have a cat named Xiao Gui who plays fetch. I lived a nomadic childhood growing up in isolated native communities like Webequie and Bella Bella (ten points to whoever can locate those on a map)! I consider my hometown to be Manitoulin Island, even though I'm not a haweater.
I interviewed J.K. Rowling on CBC radio when I was eleven years old. I bicycled through Europe via the Swiss Alps by the age of fifteen. I believe in backpacks, not suitcases. I have ridden a camel through the Sahara desert. I have been piranha fishing in the Amazon rainforest. I have bungee jumped, para-glided and para-sailed all over the world. I live for adventure. I have kissed the Blarney Stone. I have taught English in Finland. I have studied Chinese in Taiwan.
I have graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Political Studies. I plan to study more in the future, but for now, I educate myself through travel. I am full-time Assistant Manager of a youth hostel, part-time bartender and all-the-time photographer.
