Lauren Potempa

To give a quick description of my background, I have a Bachelor’s of Science with Highest Distinction from Purdue University. I also have a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Business Writing and Communications from Northwestern University.

Professionally, my experience is diverse. I have experience studying in the sciences, as my degree from Purdue is in Animal Sciences. I also have experience working in the media and sports industries. I have completed several internships, one with a television station (Comcast SportsNet Chicago) and several with professional or semi-professional sports teams. Those internships revolved around media, video, and broadcasting.

I also spent about two years working at Comcast SportsNet Chicago as a video editor. While there, I worked on multiple projects for multiple shows. I collaborated with many different people, from interns to producers. Though it was a casual environment most of the time, I took my responsibilities seriously, always being sure to get my assignments finished on time and with high quality. I prided myself on going above and beyond expectations, whether it was cutting tapes before they needed to be cut or making suggestions for scripts, to name a couple examples.

I also have some volunteer experience, which allowed me to use my customer service skills. I volunteered for the 2016 NFL Draft in Chicago. I held many different roles (including roles for which I had not signed up to do – however, when called upon I gladly stepped in to fill a need) and interacted with many different stakeholders, often composed of high-volume crowds. As part of this experience, while interfacing with various people, I had to think on my feet and make in the moment decisions.

When it comes to what I am looking for in my next opportunity, I am in transition professionally. I am currently looking to move on from the media field and into a new industry. What I am looking for is an opportunity that will challenge me and keep me engaged. I want an opportunity that will provide me with a chance to grow professionally. I am also looking for an opportunity that will give me the ability to use my strengths and my skills to their full potential while continually developing new skills.
