I'm a city girl with a southern heart. I grew up in a tiny Texan town, so it's no surprise that I've lived all over the world. I weave recipes, friendships, and cultures into my life. I'm known for my inability to relax when I hear the word impossible and my home-canned tomatoes. I was a foodie back when my grandfather tilled my first vegetable garden when I was twenty. I plan road trips around culinary adventures, independent cinemas, and places where water runs freely--from waterfalls to the ocean.
I'm a writer, editor, and educator. My essays on education, mental illness, social justice, politics, and feminism have appeared in CNN, The Independent, Dame Magazine, Hippocampus, Cagibi Magazine, and other publications. I'm finishing “Life On My Terms,” a memoir, and interviewing authors at litmagazine.org. I'm the founder of WRITE ON!, where I lead writing workshops for marginalized voices. I received an MFA in Nonfiction from The New School. Twitter handle is @LaVonneRoberts.
