Lawrence Tawneven Lemon has an extensive background in performing arts which has afforded him a number of awards and life commemorative achievements, including special recognition given by the Governor of Ohio for outstanding accomplishments in the area of Fine Arts.

Lawrence also has a passion for education and is a continuing student of the arts, technology, and arts integration. With his educationand experience Mr. Lemon has served as Director of Arts/Arts Integration at several schools, programs, and educational institutions; and is currently Director of Arts and Expressions for Clarity Creative Institute and serves on The Visionary Leaders Institutes: TECH21 Team.

Mr. Lemon had the honor of performing dance tributes for Mammie Till, Emmit Till’s mother, and civil rights activist, Ms. Rosa Parks at two NAACP National Conventions; as well as being an opening act for some of today’s top recording artist including Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, J Moss, Donald Lawrence, Destiny’s Child and Jay Z.

Mr. Lemon has performed a number of leading roles in operas, plays, and musicals such as: Carmen Jones, The Wiz, Soldiers Story, A Raisin in the Sun, and Dreamgirls just to name a few.

His gift of choreography has been used to produce and direct several full-length ballets, musicals, concerts, and productions; as well as choreographing/directing the Miss America Preliminary "Miss Pride" pageant for which he received Best Choreography for the state of Kentucky.

Lawrence has had the honor of being under the tutelage of famed dancer/choreographer/instructor, Katherine Dunham and Master Dunham Teachers Dr. Glory Van Scott and Ruby Streate. Lawrence most recently had the honor of working with modern dance pioneer Dianne McIntyre in Ntozake Shange’s choreopoem “Why I Had to Dance.” He has also been blessed to work with Zoe Ellington Britton, Troy Powell, Terrance Greene, and April Berry.

Lawrence studied at the Ailey School in New York City, the official school of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, is a graduate of Senator Ray Miller's Institute for Change and Leadership, a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Lifetime member of the NAACP, and active in several other community organizations.

Mr. Lemon’s most prestigious accomplishments are the establishment of Nomel Inspirational Dance Theater and the Ohio Black Dance Festival, of which is he both Founder and Artistic Director.
