Lucknow Book Club

One foggy January night seven years ago, when other people their age were busy asking ‘asl’ and ‘ctc’ in yahoo chat rooms, these nine young Lucknowites were in an online forum discussing their first love – books. ORKUT was a popular social networking site in 2006 and these nine bookworms formed a group, The Lucknow Book Club, on the 10th of January 2006. What followed was a phase of passionate online discussions upon varied topics relating to books, authors, book stores and libraries. gradually the group begin to grow. Within no time the club grew from 9 to 900.
Virtual Members became friends and soon began to support each other for causes, whether it was free vaccinations for street children, blood donation to a cancer victim or academic advice, this club and its members have done more than just suggest a good read.

We met.
We talked.
We decided.
The decision was unanimous. After many ‘baithaks’ we registered ourselves as a NGO and we exist in the real world too. Our priorities include making Lucknow a better place, saving what’s left of a fast fading culture, encouraging children to read and parents to let them! amongst many others…
The club is a registered society where members meet on the last Sunday of every month at 2:30 p.m. (place usually a coffee shop, announced the week of the meet) to discuss amongst much else, the book of the month.
If you have an idea for the club, share it!
The club is yours. Happy reading!
