Luis Cataldi
Luis Cataldi is a veteran of the computer graphic industry. As a production artist, he has served as an animator, rigger, FX artist, character artist, lighting TD, compositor and UX designer. His production experiences include industrial simulations, stereoscopic 3-D ride films (Kleiser-Walczak Construction Company), 3-D episodic television development (GLC Productions, Nickelodeon Digital), broadcast graphics, commercial television animation, music videos (Curious Pictures, Hydraux Santa Monica) and feature-film animation (Bluesky Studios).
In 2004, Cataldi was recruited into the game industry by the makers of the Battlefield franchise Digital Illusions CE but soon moved on to become one of the founding members of Kaos Studios in Manhattan, New York, where he served as its studio and project art director for 5 years. In the role, Cataldi was able to build an extremely talented team of 25+ artists and establish and support nearly all studio art pipelines. Luis shipped "Frontlines: Fuel of War" in 2007 as well as serving as the initial art director on the acclaimed "Homefront," which shipped in March 2011 on all major consoles.
As an educator, Cataldi began teaching in the late-1990s. He has conducted workshops as the School of Visual Arts in New York , as well as serving as adjunct professor at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts from 1999 until 2002. In a professional environment, Cataldi has had the privilege of mentoring apprentice and intern artists many of which have gone on to work at prestigious studios such as Blue Sky, Pixar, Weta, ILM and Treyarch Studios.
Luis had the privilege of joining the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2010 as the Chair of the Interactive Design and Game Development department. In the role, Luis oversees the day-to-day administration of academic affairs for the department, development of curriculum, fostering inter-departmental collaboration as well as continuing to enhance the reputation of the SCAD Interactive Design and Game Development Department in academic and professional circles. By far the most rewarding part of the work is the daily interaction with the many talented students attending the program.
Luis has also been a avid practitioner of Aikido for over 25 years. He had the privilege of studying under Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan and the many great instructors at the New York Aikikai for more than 10 years as well as Rick Stickles Shihan at the Aikido Schools of New
