I came to yoga by accident. In the process of training for my second marathon, I was looking for a way to reduce the burning sensation in my hips from tight muscles and thought that yoga might help. After stumbling into what turned out to be a Power Yoga class and grunting, sweating and stretching my way through 90 minutes of what looked to be so effortless for the rest of the participants, I fell in love with it. Not only had I found an exercise/stretching regime that would compliment my aerobic activity, I quickly realized that this would supplement my strength training as well.
Since then, I've come to realize that the combination of introspective inquiry, breath work and physically demanding asanas develops and strengthens the mind-body connection and allows me to focus and mindfully be present...and to be more aware of when I'm not!
