Leigh Drinkwater

Plymouth, uk

Leigh Drinkwater is a young, enthusiastic music and portrait photographer, specialising in both live and promotional images from the South-West, UK. Music became a major part of her life at a young age where it helped her through her childhood and teenage years, this is where she began to be amazed by how it could change her mood and assist any situation. Leigh chooses to work in digital due to it being speedier ready for the quick turn around and the higher quality of low lighting at shows.
After spending 2 years on A-levels mainly focusing on fashion/Fine art photography, she then embodied on her degree where she was given an open brief and decided to put her two passions together and head down the music photography road. Once she started she knew there was no going back. Leigh’s own devotion and connection to music took over. This is where she began to document events but with a different perspective. Due to her own fascination with music and how it affected herself mixed with the adrenaline and the challenge of being put under pressure in different situautions is used as inspiration while shooting. She captures the audience and bands as they lose themselves within the music; Leigh does this by exploring and emphasising the movement, expressions, interactions and relationships.

She believes that it’s her post-processing techniques that makes the difference with her atmospheric, textured and high contrast images and decides to edit in this way as she feels that this technique gives an extra dynamic to the photos, taking the viewer back to the gig itself. Leigh intends to carry on building her portfolio while increasing contacts and gaining more experience working in different venues and band/promoters.
