In my day job, I work at Cindy Solomon & Associates as the Managing Director, in which I wear several hats: I’m the Head of Operations, SVP of Marketing, VP of Sales, Director of Content, Manager of Tech Support, and an intern when it comes to just about everything else.
I wasn’t always in operations, but when you run your own business for 5 years, and you happen to be an efficiency nerd, you develop a knack for the back-end of business.
I actually started out in Business Development for a large ad agency. And then another equally large ad agency. I learned how to take an opportunity and win the hell out of it.
I then led corporate and online marketing at a tech startup, where I learned what B2B is, and how to get creative, and do a whole lot of stuff with not a whole lot of money. I also learned that to be a good marketer, you have to know sales.
Then I took a detour, quit my job, traveled the world, started a web design firm, and continued traveling the world while running a successful business.
During that period, in addition to running a successful web design firm, I also started and ran several side projects. Some took off, some didn’t. That’s the beauty of startups.
- The Chainlink: sold to my business partner
- Lesbians Who Tech: bought out by business partner
- Lean Impact: failed fast
- FamilyBridge: failed fast
Throughout, I learned how to run the back-end of a business, how to hustle, how to do whatever it takes to get things done. How to take chaos and make it work efficiently.
Now I’ve taken the business development experience, marketing experience, “do whatever it takes to get things done” experience, and the technology experience, and I’m the Managing Director of a fantastic consulting firm.
In my spare time, I’m a startup mentor and I race triathlons.
