Rhiannon Jones
Teacher in Victoria, BC, Canada
I am a secondary teacher currently living in Victoria, BC, Canada. My interests include design, running, politics, camping, and photography. I recently completed my Post-Baccalaureate Bachelor of Education at Vancouver Island University, and hold an undergraduate degree from McGill in Sociology and Geography.
In February I moved to Victoria and started working as a Teacher on Call - unfortunately, the pandemic has put a pause on that role. I have previously worked as an inclusion worker, education assistant, and Teacher on Call in Whitehorse, Yukon (my hometown).
More recently, I was the executive producer of a family adventure race series called XRACE in New Zealand and Australia, where I created curriculum underlined by universal design theory to create activities that were inclusive for participants ages 3 to 75.
I am excited to build on my passion for digital citizenship and using technology innovatively to create engaging and collaborative learning environments. I enjoy creating interdisciplinary projects that allow teenagers to practice digital citizenship skills and civic responsibility. For example, I developed a unit for my Yukon First Nations Studies 12 practicum class where they used ArcGIS Story Maps, G Suite for Education, Adobe Creative Cloud in combination with conversations with local elders to explore local land use controversies.
I believe that with intentional planning and scaffolded support, digital platforms can enhance (not distract from) critical thinking and learning outcomes. I'm excited about exploring ways that technology can help breakdown traditional silos in education.
