University Professor, Scholar-activism, and Social Science Research in Cheshire & Birmingham, UK

Hi I’m Geraldine. I’m professor of Knowledge Exchange and Social Justice at Birmingham City University, UK. My doctorate was in Social Policy and Sociology, but I now work across Social Science disciplines, drawing from a host of fields including: Gender Studies, Romani Studies, Social Anthropology, Criminology and Education.

My work relates to four main areas:

  • Social Inclusion/Justice, Diversity, Equality and Belonging,
  • Participation and Engagement in Research,
  • Countering diverse forms of Abuse in Society,
  • Transnational projects for social good.

This work has allowed me to get involved in civic engagement and research on a variety of topics, from my PhD about the boundaries of care and abuse of older people in institutional settings, to racism and abuse in high schools, inclusion of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people in diverse cultural contexts (UK, Western Balkans, Eastern Europe) and inclusive practice in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Education.

I am a professor, but I am also a practitioner, qualified in Psychotherapy (very recently) and Hypnotherapy (for 20 years). You can link to some of my work with a click on the button above.
