Simon was born and educated in Melbourne, lived and worked in Tokyo for Mitsubishi Corporation and read his law degree at the University of Durham. After completing a brief stint as a Japanese Government Bond trader for Nomura International in London, Simon returned to Australia where he worked for Freehills in Perth. He joined the Australian Regular Army and was posted to Darwin where he resided with his wife, Minako, and two children Hisano and Taishi until early 2015. Simon worked as a prosecutor for the Northern Territory (NT) Director of Public Prosecutions and is now a legal officer with the Royal Australian Navy Reserve. In Darwin, Simon was the honorary consul for the Kingdom of Belgium and is (currrently) a barrister practising primarily in criminal law in Melbourne.
