Leigh-Anne Wellington

Student and Aspiring Teacher in Johannesburg, South Africa

Hi:) I am Leigh-Anne Jeanette Wellington, a current 3rd year student pursuing a degree in Education. My interests range from food to education. I also take interest in cooking, animation, and DIY.

I'm a student at the University of Johannesburg, with a focus in English and ICT school support within the subject of education. My interest in English Literature and anything related to computers and the digital world are the driving forces behind my choice in career. I am able to share my views and opinions with pupils, as well as gain knowledge and experience from them by becoming a teacher. I think that the foundation for empowering, nurturing, and encouraging brilliant minds is in fact, the classroom. I have done many things as a student to help improve and develop myself as an individual and future teacher.

For example, by participating in both online and in-person groups of interest, I have the opportunity to learn about the experiences of people in my field of study as well as those who are already working. Additionally, I have made sure to employ internet tools such as programmes and short courses that will help me improve significantly. Namely, the Microsoft Learn: Educator Center platform enables me to interact with people who share my interests and provides courses that will expand my tool and skill set. I tutor Mathematics, English, and more recently, CAT as a volunteer at schools to increase my on-the-job experience. I've also taken a number of coding and digital awareness classes, which will further my experience as a teacher in training.
