He continued his academic development by completing a master's degree in education at San Francisco State University in 1982. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University in 1988. His studies in history, education, teaching, and business provided a broad academic foundation that supported his transition between university instruction, curriculum development, business leadership, consulting, and executive advisory responsibilities.

Leland Sandler has extended his leadership experience into community service, professional associations, and volunteer activities. He served for five years on the board of an international coaching network and completed five years of pro bono leadership and team development work with a performing arts organization. He has also provided career guidance to former military personnel transitioning from service into civilian professional life. Away from work and volunteering, he enjoys cross-country skiing, hiking, photography, reading, writing short stories, and spending time in Morrison, Colorado.
