Lem has been involved with arts as a performer and consultant for over twenty years. He has worked with many; local, state, regional and national arts agencies.

Lemuel Sheppard is a self taught guitarist from Kansas City. The Blues, Jazz and Folk musician trained under Dr. Eva Jessye, who gained international fame as the original choral director in George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.

He is a scholar of African American music and has performed across the United States, South America, Africa, and at the Kennedy Center. Sheppard composed and performed the soundtrack to the PBS documentary Black, White and Brown, is a member of the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Kansas Folklore Society’s Joan O’Bryan award. In 2012 Sheppard was one of six national finalists in the Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition.
