It’s a staggering achievement of mainstream education, that history is a subject that for most people becomes lifeless, unapproachable and tedious. The person who knows about history is the one who can remember lists, such as the order of all the presidents or the wives of Henry VIII.
There must be a grander reason for absorbing history, and one may by that by looking at societies in different times and places, you can gain a clearer view of your own time and place.
