Anxiety Treatment Involves Self Care

If you have ever suffered from anxiety, you know that it comes with a wide array of symptoms. You may have excessive worrying, fear something awful is going to happen, or feel an impending doom coming on. Others feel nauseated, fatigued, and may sweat a lot. Other common symptoms of anxiety include restlessness, hypervigilance, irritability, racing thoughts, unwanted thoughts, trembling, palpitations, and lack of concentration. If you have experienced any of these, anxiety treatment is essential.

But anxiety treatment does not just involve going to the doctor, being on medications, or seeing a therapist. There is a lot more that one can do to assist in their anxiety management plan. And this includes self-care. Self-care is important for any individual, but especially for those that have an illness.

So what self-care can be done as an anxiety treatment? One big thing you can do is to start avoiding alcohol. Drinking alcohol can suppress the central nervous system. In many people, it will provide a sedative effect, which may also make a person feel euphoric. It may seem like the alcohol is taking away the problems, when in reality, it may be causing more issues.

Another self-care anxiety treatment is to talk to a person that you trust. It could be a coworker, a friend, a neighbor, a family member, or a pastor. You may even consider going to a therapist. No matter who you decide to talk to, pick someone that will not tell others what you discuss. And do not pick anyone that will judge you for what you tell them.

You may also consider keeping a diary. By writing down your feelings, you can let a lot of frustrations out. This may be essential if you do not have anyone to talk to or no one that you trust.

Have you ever heard someone say “just breathe”. When they say this, they know something that perhaps you don’t.

Yoga is a great method for complimenting any of the above suggestions. This is a great way to not only stay in shape but to concentrate on what you are doing.

You also need to make sure you are getting enough sleep each night. Aim for 7 or 8 hours that are of high-quality. If you have trouble relaxing at night, take a bubble bath or rub in some lavender lotion. Play a sound box or listen to relaxing music.

Self-care is extremely important for anyone, especially those that have anxiety. By doing various anxiety treatment options for yourself, you are taking the first step to feeling better.
