Strength Quest Results
For my top five strengths, I got achiever, learner, consistency, maximizer, and discipline. Achiever really stuck out for me because that is what I pride myself on. I have always been goal orientated and determined to achieve those goals. When my sister was valedictorian in 2012, I knew I had to earn that same spot come 2015, and I did. Achievers have an unimaginable drive and won't stop until that need of achievement is fulfilled. This strength will keep be motivated and focused as I continue my education. I will not be satisfied until I have reached my goals.
SMART Goal
Specific - My current SMART goal is to get a position at the University of Cincinnati Children's Hospital for a summer research program.
Measurable - I would have reached this goal once I get an acceptance email.
Achievable - It's realistic because I have a qualified GPA and have had two previous research experiences.
Relevant - It's significant in my life because I enjoy conducting cancer research and hope to continue it throughout my undergraduate career. It will also contribute to my resume.
Timely - I will achieve this goal by sending in my application by the new year, and if I get a position, I will be accepted March-April.
Creating SMART goals help organize your thoughts and will aid in completion. If you have distinct elements to follow, you will be more likely to track and achieve your goal. It's important in academics, but also your personal life.
Lessons From a First-Year Buckeye
I have learned many important lessons in my first semester that I believe helped me make it to the end.
1. It's okay if you do not get A's on every exam. As long as you tried your hardest, you can not be disappointed in yourself.
2. Stay in touch with your family because they miss you just as much as you miss them.
3. It's important to develop a professional relationship with your professors because they can help you with course work and act as a mentor,
4. College is very stressful so it's important to find that one thing that helps you destress. For me, it's exercise.
5. There can be pressure to conform, but it's good to remember to just be yourself.
These lessons are a great way to keep my academic life organized and will help with my future semesters as they become more difficult.
