Diane Levesque

Kenosha, WI

Born in St. Alban’s, Vermont and raised in Plattsburgh, New York, Diane Levesque received her B.A. from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 1980. In 1981 she received a scholarship towards an M.F.A. program at the University of Chicago where she graduated with an M.F.A. in painting in 1983 . Upon graduation she established a studio in Chicago where she exhibited her work at various galleries and museums including Hokin/Koffmann Gallery, N.A.M.E. Gallery, The Chicago Cultural Center and The Art Institute of Chicago. She became a member of the woman’s co-op gallery, Artemisia Gallery from 1987- 89 where she had two one-person exhibitions. In 1987 she was awarded an Illinois Arts Fellowship Grant. In 1999 she received the “Gradiva Award” for Best Art from the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis.
In 1991, Diane moved to Kenosha and continued to paint and exhibit her work at numerous locations including The Madison Art Center , The Wisconsin Academy of Art Gallery, The Rockford Art Museum, and The Wustum Art Museum. In 2000, she was awarded a Wisconsin Arts Board Fellowship Grant.
She is currently Assistant Professor in Art at Carthage College, Chair of the Art Department, and director of the H.F.Johnson Art Gallery.
Her work is represented by Peltz Gallery in Milwaukee.
