The Washington-based reporter Murray Waas won one of journalism's highest honors for his report on US health insurers dropping their patients after many of them were diagnosed with breast cancer.

Murray Waas won the honors at the fourth annual Barlett & Steele Awards for Investigative Business Journalism were presented in New York. Waas' nine-month investigation for the first time disclosed that WellPoint, the country's largest health insurer, had targeted policyholders recently diagnosed with breast cancer to cancel their policies.
