Lewis Leon

Providing a multitude of services in addition to Sunday morning preaching, Lewis Leon oversees the congregation and proceedings of the Highland Congregational Church. Joining the California church in early 2011, Reverend Lewis strives to gain more parishioners for the organization, and his efforts have led to notable and continuing growth for the church. Lewis Leon successfully combines his education in the ministry and counseling with his passion for community service to lead the church. After finishing his undergraduate sociology studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, Lewis Leon began his pastoral education. He spent three years in New Jersey at Princeton Theological Seminary working toward a Master of Divinity. While there, he served as a Chaplain for Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey as well. Later, Lewis Leon obtained his doctorate in ministry after finishing the Fuller Theological Seminary's marriage and family education program. During his time living in Scottsdale, Arizona, Dr. Lewis Leon joined Valley Presbyterian Church as Associate Pastor. He primarily served in family life ministry and single adult ministry, providing counseling and organizing mission trips for the group. In addition to his work as a pastor, Lewis Leon instructed students as an adjunct professor at Scottsdale Community College and Cook School for Christian Leadership in Arizona. Assuming the title of Senior Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside in 2000, Lewis Leon led the congregation for eight years. Working to assist the communities of Oceanside and Carlsbad, California, he launched the afterschool program Safe Harbor Ministry in 2004. The program, which is still active today, offers tutoring and assistance with homework. Furthermore, Reverend Leon planned and led several foreign ministry projects. In Honduras, the group provided nutritional aid to children. Traveling to Costa Rica, the church renovated a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities. Likewise, he has ventured to Mexico numerous times to lend a hand in reconstruction efforts. Reverend Lewis Leon has most recently gained support and recognition throughout the community of Highland, California. With Highland Congregational Church since March 2011, he has already created effective programs for students and partnered with local bands to stage an outdoor concert series.
