Hello, my name is Lydia and I am a self-proclaimed (band) nerd. I have been playing the piano and violin since I was five years old because my parents forced me to, and now I continue to enjoy every minute of it. This is mostly because I only find the time to play when I am (definitely not) procrastinating and should probably be studying for my classes or the MCAT instead. As a part of the concert band in middle school, as well as marching band throughout high school, music has been an incredible part of my life, and some of my best memories and friends arose out of that experience. After fourteen years of music, one would expect that I would be pretty good, and perhaps even an almost professionally-sounding musician as some of my friends are; however, I am just glad that I don't burst anyone's ear drums when I play!

Life is short, and time should be spent doing the things you love. I was warned before trying out for the Redcoat Marching Band that unfortunately, most of my future science professors wouldn’t seem to appreciate this fact. Because of time constraints, it would have been incredibly difficult to balance school, a job, and marching band. Thankfully, however, I was still able to do what I love by becoming a part of a new music organization here on campus, and I absolutely love it. I think that it is important that everyone have their own outlet to de-stress after a long day, and music is mine! I believe that it is a vital part of human existence, and hope to be able to incorporate it when I go into my future career and desired field of research (neurodevelopmental disorders).
