I’m Lily Toomey, a junior at Watkinson School in Hartford, CT, and my passion is the arts. I’m an accomplished classical flutist who accumulates other instruments, and I’ve taught myself alto saxophone, piccolo, guitar, bass, and ukulele. Most of my work involves drawing connections, whether it’s between jazz on the alto sax and classical flute, or between music and history. A music history course opened my eyes to the vast connections between art and history, and recognizing these connections allows me to flourish in both the Creative Arts Diploma Program and the Global Studies Diploma Programs. These are intensive programs offered at Watkinson that award the participant with a second diploma come graduation, and I am the only student in both Global Studies and the Creative Arts Program. Additionally, I spend most of my free time in the sculpture room throwing on the wheel or creating life-sized wooden deer. I regularly show my work around Watkinson campus.
