I was born in northeast Texas and have lived in 10 other states since then, but bluebonnets are still one of my favorite flowers.
My entrepreneurial instincts were honed while still in elementary school by supportive parents, especially my dad, who enjoyed helping us follow our interests and giving us practical tools for life. My earliest ventures were selling eggs from my small flock of hens and making and selling tofu with my brother.
Since then, I have owned an operated a successful furniture upholstery shop in a Chicago suburb, started a plant propagation nursery from twigs up in northeastern Pennsylvania and now am in the early stages of a couple of new online ventures.
I have been called a "renaissance woman". My non-traditional education, combined with great opportunities, the challenges of life and a passion for learning has given me skills and/or hobbies in such diverse areas as auto mechanics, various aspects of building/remodeling such as plumbing, electrical and drywall, music, homesteading, growing and preserving food, natural remedies, horticulture, sewing, landscaping, furniture upholstery, preaching, teaching and recovery from abuse and trauma.
I have been involved in Christian ministry of some type for most of my life. My husband of 30 years is a pastor, and I have volunteered in children's, women's and music ministry, pastored a small church on a temporary basis and also was employed as a hospice chaplain and volunteer coordinator for several years.
I am the mom of two sons, both through college and on their own. Homeschooling them through elementary school gave us amazing opportunities for travel and exploration.
My philosophy has been that I can have it all, just not all at once. I tend to throw myself into whatever I am doing at the time, and when that stage is past, I find another challenge to master. Bringing a totally unknown product to market (the Sleepy Sleeve: www.youregettingwarmer.com) is stretching me past my comfort zone in many ways, but I am determined to accomplish it!
