In the spring of 1975, just after receiving his high school diploma, Lionel Beaucage enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his boot camp training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in South Carolina and was then deployed to Okinawa, Japan, where he served in supply administration. Lionel Beaucage returned to the United States the following December to work in a similar capacity with the Third Light Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion in Cherry Point, North Carolina.

After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Lionel Beaucage became a frigate ship boiler maker for Bath Iron Works. A series of layoffs in 1980 led him to return to the Marine Corps, where he served for another two years as an ammunition tech and head of the command sound tower at Marine Corps Base Quantico (MCB Quantico) in Virginia. After completing this tour, he returned to Bath Iron Works and successfully completed its three-year designer apprenticeship program.

Lionel Beaucage worked at Bath Iron Works until 1995, when he left the company to become a personal fitness trainer. In that capacity, he has since served the community of Topsham, Maine, where he works with clients in their homes and at local fitness centers. A Level 1 Cross-Fit instructor, he also offers sport training, injury management, nutrition counseling, and weight-loss support.
