Lisa Curtis
Lisa Curtis is an entrepreneur who has changed the world with Kuli Kuli, a powerful new startup. Kuli Kuli provides healthy snacks to people in the U.S. while providing economic and nutritional support to farmers in West Africa.
Curtis came up with this idea while she was working with the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. There, she volunteered at a health center and taught English in a local school. She also learned about a superfruit called moringa that a number of farmers grew. Lisa saw how nutritious moringa was and how it could help solve health issues while also contributing to West Africa's economy. And thus, Kuli Kuli was born.
Kuli Kuli sells Moringa Superfood Bars, Pure Moringa Powder and Moringa Green Energy Shots to people in the United States, allowing them to get their greens while on the go. Whenever these goods are purchased, the customer is helping plant moringa trees in West Africa. This company has contributed to significant economic growth and support for female farmers in West Africa. And it’s selling tasty and healthful snacks. It’s a win-win!
Before founding Kuli Kuli, Lisa Curtis served as the Communications Director at Mosaic. She contributed largely to the company’s growth, leading Mosaic to grow from zero to over $5M invested in solar. Prior to working with Mosaic, Curtis wrote political briefings for President Obama, Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Lisa Curtis has also represented North American youth as a United Nations Environment Programme Youth Advisor. She has also worked at an impact investment firm in India called Start-Up. Curtis’ writing has been featured on The Huffington Post, Forbes, and Grist. She has also been recognized as a StartingBloc Fellow, a Udall Scholar, a Wild Gift Better World Entrepreneur, and an Ashoka Emerging Innovator.
