I am Visiting Associate Professor of Journalism at Drew University and Director of the New York Semester on Media and Communications. My research is situated at the intersection between culture, technology, and political change, focusing on topics including new media, information access, global internet governance issues, and human rights. I have published in scholarly and cultural publications ranging from New Literary History to Open Democracy and Journalism Practice. Past research projects include a Grand/NCE funded project on the archiving of born-digital news materials; and a Grand/NCE funded effort to create a newsgame about the sex industry in Canada.
Recently, I have published several journal articles and book chapters on the circulation of Wikileaks' disclosure through the Western and non-Western press. Information about these articles can be found in my Academia profile.
Currently, I am an affiliate at Data and Society, and I looking at how journalism might be affected by the extraterritorial enforcement of European Privacy laws. I am also at work on a book about native advertising that focuses on issue-based and political native ads. During the academic year 2014-2014, I was a fellow at Princeton's Center For Information Technology Policy.
