Reinventing yourself professionally can be very challenging when you change careers after having worked in Human Resources/Office Administration for over the past 25 years, but having passion and drive can give you the motivation to pursue other career paths in order to obtain your goals.
I worked for Detroit Public Schools for 19 years in various departments within the school district. I thought that it was very important to gain experience at all levels of the organization; Some of the departments and schools included the Food Services Department, Cass Technical High School, Joy Middle School, Employee Health Services - Medical Office and Benefits Department, Legal Counsel Office and Samuel Gompers Elementary School.
After I received my Bachelors of Arts Degree in Management and Organizational Development/Human Resources, I made the decision after working 19 years at Detroit Public Schools to begin utilizing my HR degree. I worked for Wade Trim Associates, Inc. as an HR Coordinator and Office Adminstrator. At Wade Trim I was able to wear many hats as a Supervisor responsbile for onboarding, HR Generalist assignments, employee relations, conducting new hire employee orientations, exit interviews, coordinated corporate events, budgets, I-9 verifications, and background checks. I was a trusted advisor for employees regarding their health and benefits.
I have always had a desire to further my education, and three years ago, I decided to return back to school to pursue another passion of mine, Broadcast Journalism. I enjoy writing, talking to people and telling their stories. I plan to work in the field of HR while I am pursuing my journalism career...who says that you can't pursue both. In this economy, it's good to have more than one skill set because of the competitive market to compete for jobs.
I am currently seeking employment opportunities in the area of Human Resources and the Media Industry.
