I like to write about media--- the propensity for racism and sexism in the mainstream media.

From my latest column:

Fishbowl DC is mired in a controversy of its own creation. Earlier today, Fishbowl DC’s Betsy Rothstein published a piece purporting to identify the “trend” of female journalists “using provocative, sometimes sexy photographs of themselves for their Twitter accounts.” Rothstein included three photos of young female journalists as evidence.

Gawker’s Maureen O’Connor was one of thousands of people to mock the post on Twitter. Linking to a similarly banal photo of Rothstein published on the Web site of The New York Observer, O’Connor wrote, “just look at this shoulder-baring skank.” Rothstein, using the FishbowlDC Twitter account, responded, “You might want to look in the mirror before calling anyone a skank.” It was only one of the Betsy Rothsteins we know: the self-obsessed Betsy Rothstein, the bigoted Betsy Rothstein, the racist Besty Rothstein, the cruel Betsy Rothstein, the libeling Besty Rothstein.
