I'm running for school board because the recent 2% tax levy cap has made it more difficult for Rhinebeck to fund its educational programs. The district is going to have to get more creative about funding so we don't reach budget season faced with the need to cut programs, staff or both. With my legal training, my background in civil law enforcement, and my familiarity with financial disclosure, I think I can help the district to cope with the challenges the tax cap creates. Also, as a child of teachers I know that the teachers and staff have to be partners with the board in this process.
My husband Jon and I have a 7th grader at Bulkeley Middle School. I practice law in Rhinebeck and New York City. As a lawyer for the Securities & Exchange Commission and in private practice for over 25 years, I've become familiar with a broad range of financial issues. Both my parents were educators in the New York City Schools for many years.
Please come out and vote on Tuesday, May 15th between 2 and 9 p.m. at the Bulkeley cafeteria, North Road, Rhinebeck. Remember to turn your ballot over and mark both sides: the budget proposition is on one side of the ballot, and the vote for members of the school board is on the other side.
