My favourite medium is the humble pencil. I love the simplicity of pencil — the control, the cleanliness, the accessibility and the portability of it. But mainly, I am passionate about the direct mind to story to art connection that working in pencil affords me. There are no delays while mixing colours; no pausing to clean brushes; no waiting for paint to dry; no interruptions in the “I think, therefore I create” process. I love that.

In July 2012, I helped to co-found the Pencil Art Society, an International, Canadian-registered non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the world-wide recognition of pencil media as fine art. PAS is also committed to contributing to the professional advancement of artists working primarily in pencil media and to promoting knowledge, skill and excellence in the use of pencil media.

I also really enjoy working in acrylic paint and am exploring and developing a much more playful, surrealistic and slightly freer style in this medium than my more intensely focused and tightly controlled drawing style.

Whether through pencil or paint, my art allows me to express and narrate my own fascination with the wonderful real world around me, as well as with the world that lives mostly in my dreams.

My art is an open invitation to the viewer to pause for a moment, reflect on and simply enjoy the tales and worlds I create with my pencils and brushes.
