Valerie M. Evans is a writer, communications strategist, cultural critic, and lifelong student of how people construct meaning.

Over the past two decades, she has worked at the intersection of media, publishing, technology, and corporate communications, helping global organizations navigate transformation, reputation, and change. Her professional career has included leadership roles spanning executive communications, digital strategy, content, social media, publishing, and M&A integration across industries ranging from media and information services to food, health, and ingredients.

Long before "personal branding" became a buzzword, Valerie launched Literanista, an independent online publication exploring books, culture, ideas, and the evolving relationship between readers and technology. Twenty years later, she continues to write about literature, publishing, credibility, digital culture, and the forces shaping how expertise is established and challenged in public life.

Trained as an anthropologist and holding a master's degree in Media, Ethics and Social Change from the University of Sussex, her work is informed by a deep interest in storytelling, identity, memory, and the systems people use to understand the world.

She is particularly interested in questions such as:

• How do institutions earn trust and lose it?

• What happens when algorithms become gatekeepers of expertise?

• Why do certain stories endure while others disappear?

• How are technology and media reshaping culture, authority, and community?

Her essays, reviews, and commentary explore these questions through the lenses of literature, communications, history, technology, and everyday life.

She lives in coastal South Carolina with her family, where she writes, gardens, researches family history, and remains convinced that owning a website and an email list is still one of the smartest decisions a writer can make.
